Unit 12 UPDATED Action Plan (17th April with Evaluation of the Week)

U12 Project Action Plan 17th April

Changes from the week before:

WEEK 8: I had written in my action plan over Easter that I had planned to have learned my lines for both Saint Joan and Shopping and F***ing in order to rehearse off book in the first week back. However, as I had written in my evaluation column last week, I had set myself too much over a time when I needed to refresh. This now means that this task will be moved over to this week.

WEEK 9: After uploading last weeks action plan, I have been in contact with both Sian and Leah, discussing that we should meet after a couple of rehearsals in week 8 so we can have a think about costumes relating our character and the personality given to them, also thinking about their situation. In terms of my Saint Joan costume, I have put more specifically what I would like to discuss with Alex.

WEEK 10: I have written about doing a rehearsal with not only Sian, but also Josh, since Easter, he has asked to help with direction with Shopping and F***ing.

WEEK 11: As of this week, I have now set myself a deadline to have everything blocked, I haven’t put this in other action plans, but now I feel that I need to be more strict with myself as I don’t want to get to show week and still not be ready. I will therefore be prepared leading up to Bonnie and Clyde, which will disrupt week 12.

‘Saints and Sinners’ Project Action Plan and Timetable

Week No Date Week

Activity Resources Outcomes Achieved?
8/13 17.04.17 As it will be the first day back after a two week break, it will be important that I meet with Sian early in the week where we can catch up on our progress. As I have not been able to be solid on my lines for Shopping and F***ing, I would like to be able to have these lines completely off the book, however, this would not stop us from having a rehearsal either Monday or Tuesday before the work in progress so we can provide a positive update.

As I was unable to complete everything in the previous week, targets that I didn’t meet last week, I would like to try and meet towards the end of this week, this therefore includes researching about cabaret clubs and being solid with my Saint Joan monologue.

As well as meetings with Sian, I also need to think about getting in contact with Leah and Alex regarding the technical aspects and costume for both of my pieces.

Wednesday will be our Work In Progress showing, the aim of this is for every group for each piece to explain what stage they are at, the challenges overcome and what else we need to do, this will be recorded. I will have to arrange with Sian what we are going to say as we will both be going up together, I will also go up separately for Saint Joan, therefore, it is my responsibility to know these three points so I can explain my progress to the group and tutors.

In order to meet with Sian to discuss and start blocking our scene together, we will require a rehearsal space, I am aware that everyone else will also be in the same position as us, therefore, we need to find a separate room to avoid distracting other groups.

As I am not in the same pathway as Sian, therefore, we will have to arrange times to meet when we both have free periods. It would be best if we create a Facebook chat so we can easily get into contact with each other, we can also add Leah so she is also aware of what is happening, as she is also on a different pathway so would again have a different timetable. This will require internet access and either computers or phones which will have access to Facebook.

In order to complete the research that I have set myself for this week, I need to have a computer with internet access, this could be either in the library or a computer room. The library would probably be more useful in case there are any books which I wish to get out.

For the work in progress, we will need the tutors so we can all explain our progress to them and as this will be recorded, we will also need recording equipment, such as a camera or a phone.

At the end of the week, my main concern was meeting with Sian to discuss progress and possibly start blocking. We were able to do this and on Monday, met up with Josh, who will now be directing our piece, started blocking and putting the piece together, which we were able to record and put on a blog. We were both in similar positions at the time that we were both not fully off the book, so rehearsed with scripts in hands.

We also had a rehearsal on the Friday where we were able to talk through what we had blocked on the Tuesday. The outcome of this discussion was that we would experiment with our characters and make them less over the top. We decided that my character, who I have now named Ruby as I wanted a similar name to Robbie, is friends with Sian’s waitress character, Lulu and has asked her if she sold the drugs.

Early in the week, I was also able to completed what I was unable to do the week before, which is my cabaret club research, finding different clubs which had information and facts about what they include, which I uploaded.

The work in progress sharing was not what I thought, originally I thought that some of us would have to perform what we had so far, but this was not the case, each member got up and explained their progress so far. I was able to do this well, feeling satisfied with the progress I am at with both Saint Joan and Shopping and F***ing. However, I also need to remember about ‘Rebel’, as so far, I only have the lyrics, therefore I need to start learning this. Tom has recommended that we all meet up next Friday afternoon so we can start rehearsing, therefore, I need to include this in next week’s plan.

MARKETING: We now have a schedule for marketing following a meeting on Thursday, in the rota which has five people sharing the event on social media each week, it was my week to share the event. I have updated my cover photo on Facebook to the designed logo, also writing a status explaining the show with a link to book tickets.

9/13 24.04.17 Following a discussion with Sian and Leah the previous week, we decided to meet at some point next week so we could begin discussing costumes and where we both will be prior to our piece beginning. This can also be an opportunity to show Leah everything we currently have blocking wise from the week before. As I have stated in the week before, I would like to have the lines off book in order for the piece to flow better, then when we run it, we can look to focus more on shaping the piece instead of constantly looking at our script.

As well as this, I am going to aim to have a meeting with Alex regarding Saint Joan, where we can discuss ideas. I would like to discuss what my plans for her character and staging will be so we can start to look at costume ideas, hopefully being able to start looking at sourcing ideas the following week. In order to get more costume ideas, I will carry out some further research on Saint Joan, looking at images of her and what other clothing was worn in the early 15th century in France, looking not just at women’s clothing, but also armour and men’s clothing as she wore that on her quest, while she also wore men’s clothing in prison.

Marketing is something that we really need to start looking at, therefore, I feel that early this week we should hold a meeting to discuss who is in charge of posters and Facebook events. I will bring this idea up to the group so we can all have a discussion.

For this week, I will be aiming to have both rehearsals and meetings, therefore, we only need a small, quiet space or room to hold a meeting, however, for rehearsals, and we will require a rehearsal space which has enough space for us to move around in. The members of the group I will need to be in contact with this week are Sian, Josh, Leah and Alex. Myself and Josh are both in the acting pathway so should have no worries trying to find somewhere to meet, however, Sian is on Musical Theatre, whilst Leah and Alex are on Production Arts, therefore, I need to find a time that they are all free which fits within our timetable.

If I can sort out costume ideas with Alex, then it may be possible for me to go out and see if I can find anything, which may mean needing finances. However, we are on a small budget, therefore, I will either try to find something at college or home, if this is not possible, then aim to get something at a reasonable price.

10/13 01.05.17 This week will largely be without the tutors, the Monday is Bank Holiday and therefore, we will not be in college, so we miss a rehearsal day. The tutors meanwhile, will all be focusing on the year 1 project ‘Art and Life’, which runs Thursday and Friday, with technical and dress rehearsals running Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Therefore, we will have work on our own guidance, I will speak to Sian and Josh before Tuesday so we can arrange rehearsals for that week, also having to remember the other pieces we are also in. It would be useful to have a meeting with Leah about Shopping and F***ing

By this time, I should hopefully have a costume idea which myself and Alex can then go to look at sourcing. However, Alex will also be responsible for other pieces so I need to take responsibility for that and keep in contact with him on anything that I can source. I will do this by looking around college resources, home, online and in shops, preferably charity shops. If there is any part of my costume or props that could be made, then I could have a look at making that, which would help with finances.

I am aware that due to the other commission performance that we may be very limited on rooms, therefore, to solve this, I feel that there should be a schedule for groups who are wanting to rehearse at the same time to avoid any clashes. This will mean that we can all have access to rooms to rehearse and have meetings in. It may be possible to share rooms if they are big enough.

In order to meet with Sian, we will require a room which has a reasonable sized rehearsal space, also having to remember that my timetable with Sian might clash, so we will have to arrange a time where we are both available, this will be the same with Leah and Alex on Production Arts.

If I do decide that there are aspects of my costume or props that can be made, I will need to get resources in order to make them, but if I have to go out and buy something, I will also need finances, which I am aware are limited.

11/13 08.05.17 As I am working individually for my Saint Joan performance, I feel that to avoid getting behind on it, I should get in contact with one of the tutors so I can show to one of them what I have got for my monologue, with the aim to get feedback on what they like and how I can improve. I will talk with them at the beginning of the week to determine when there would be a suitable time to meet.

The next week will be focusing all day on Bonnie and Clyde, with rehearsals all day Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I am aware that this will lose valuable time for this project, therefore, I want to get most things ready for the end of this week so that by week thirteen, I am completely ready and not putting too much stress on myself to get everything ready for next Thursday and Friday. Therefore, I would like to have everything blocked and rehearsed a couple of times, also being able to fit the two pieces within the context of the overall performance. In order to get this, I feel that the whole group should meet up one afternoon and instead of running everything, talk through each piece in order, where everyone will be for each piece and when each piece begins. Therefore, for the technical rehearsal, we will all know what we are doing during the entire performance and will not be confused and leave it too late.

In order to meet up with Sian and with everyone, we will all need a space for us to rehearse in, therefore, we will try to get a large room, such as E.O44 or the dance studio.

By this time, I should have a costume and possibly props, so I should therefore ensure that it is in a safe space at college so I am able to use it for any rehearsal to really get into my characters.

Meeting up with everyone will require discussing a time that everyone is free, due to the fact that we are on different timetables, this is specifically the case with Sian, Leah and Alex with my two acting pieces.

12/13 15.05.17 For all day Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, my focus will be on photos, technical and dress rehearsals for Bonnie and Clyde, which runs from Wednesday 17th-Saturday 20th. Therefore, I will have limited time for Saints and Sinners so Thursday and Friday will have to purely focus on Saints and Sinners. Sian is also in Bonnie and Clyde, therefore, we will meet on Thursday and discuss if there is anything we need to do, we can talk through the production element, with final talks to Leah about the production element Shopping and F***ing, meanwhile, I will also aim to talk through with Alex any other aspects for Saint Joan. Through Bonnie and Clyde, myself and the rest if the cast will be able to complete last minute marketing for the show by speaking to audience members and handing out posters. As Bonnie and Clyde will be performed in the theatre, the set will be in there for the entire week, therefore, we will not be able to use the theatre for any rehearsals on Thursday or Friday. Instead, I will have to find rooms for meetings and rehearsals with Sian and the rest of the group in other rooms, taking into consideration that other groups will also be rehearsing. For the music, we would have already had meetings with the production team tasked with out certain pieces, hopefully, we will have music sorted so I am hopeful that we can have that for rehearsing so we can be aware of what will be played before the technical rehearsals. This will require either a device or a computer which can connect to a sound system, along with that, we can also have costumes and props ready for the following weeks, rehearsing in them this week to ensure there is nothing else we need for the next week. As we had limited contact with the tutors last week, Thursday and Friday I feel will have to meet with them to see where we are all at with our pieces. I would like to have a meeting with a tutor to go over my pieces before next week to ensure they are suitable to perform next week. This will mean seeing when Sian and the tutors are free.
13/13 22.05.17 This week will be the technical and dress rehearsal, with the final performances taking place on the 24th and 25th May. The technical rehearsal will be important as we can fit all of the pieces together in the theatre, our performance space. By now, I should have had everything given to and briefed to Alex and Leah for my two pieces so when it comes to Saint Joan and Shopping and F***ing, so hopefully, there will be no issues. For these rehearsals, it will be my responsibility to know the running order of the project performance so I know when my piece will be coming up. I will have to ensure that I fully know what I am doing for my pieces and the performance, along with the suitable costumes being lined up. The technical and dress will be able to address any problems that I will have to look at possibly with Sian and Leah or Alex. Following the show, I then have to take the responsibility of writing up my evaluation of the show and the process, with a minimum of 1000 words to be written by the 5th June. This week will mainly take place in the theatre, we will be able to get the set in place, so we have an idea for spacing and where we will be for the performance. We can also have access to the sound systems when it comes to music for our pieces. We will be with the tutors a lot this week, so I will have access to talk to them, except during the tech and dress. For any rehearsals on pieces during the tech and dress, we should be able to have access to rooms to meet in groups, especially Sian. I know that Sian is with other groups, therefore, I will have to see when she is free and not with other groups to go over everything.

For the evaluation, it will require uploading it to WordPress, therefore, I will need access to the computer room and the library to get a computer with internet access.
