Section 1: Rationale (Approx 150 words)
Throughout my two years on the acting pathway, I have gained knowledge and skills which I can take on in the future. In terms of knowledge, I have learned the correct way of using the voice, such as the importance of clarity, volume and pace. I have also been able to learn about parts of the mouth, such as the alveolar ridge and the soft and hard palettes. A lot of practice has gone into accents and the best way to practice them. We have had the opportunity to learn about different periods of drama, for example, restoration comedy and commedia dell’arte.

This has influenced my choice of pathway as learning about different acting techniques are what I want to focus on, although I enjoy singing, acting is what I have wanted to develop, I can now improve on projecting my voice. Being on the acting pathway has also given me the chance to learn the historical content of drama, an area which is of interest to me.

After finishing college, although I don’t currently have a place at drama school, short term, I would like to continue taking part in amateur productions while auditioning next year. Long term, I would like to be performing on stage with some screen work.

Section 2: Project Concept (Approx 200 words)
Our theme is ‘Saints and Sinners’, although I want to mainly approach it through acting, I would also like to have the opportunity to sing. Three pieces that I might want to include are a monologue, to put into practice everything I have learned with voice and preparing monologues. A duo with someone as the saint, the other as a sinner to portray that contrast to the audience and a small group singing piece, this is so I can have the opportunity to do something outside of pure acting. The singing could also mean mixed pathways getting involved.

Overall, the decision of the casting will be completed by tutors, however, myself and company members will also have input, including self-direction. This process will last thirteen weeks, however, there will be a two week break over the sixth and seventh week. One factor we must take into consideration is budget, we will have very little budget, however, we can use any resources that the department already has.

The revue-style performances will take place in the Conservatoire EAST theatre with an end on stage and raked seating. Performing in the theatre will give us the opportunity to include lighting and any sound that we wish to include. This will be a public performance which audiences will have to pay for, therefore, family members, young and old will be able to attend, we need to take this into consideration when creating content.

Personally, for the production, I would like to write something as well as having an on stage role, this is so I can put everything I have learned into practice. I also wouldn’t mind having on offstage role to direct something, this is because I have not had as much experience in this area and would like to develop it.

Section 3: Reflection / Evaluation (Approx 150 words)
Throughout the project, I will need to reflect and evaluate my work through the process. When it comes to the rehearsal process, I will create daily reflective journals to evaluate how each rehearsal went, what went well, what didn’t, how to improve and what I need to work on. I will describe what happen, explain why I, or my group chose a specific path during that rehearsal and evaluate how that went. At the end of the project, I will plan the evaluation, starting off by talking about how the process has evolved and how I have been able to use everything I have learned over the two years in the performance. This will also give the opportunity to explain how I was able to work with others, how I have grown, what went well, what didn’t go well and evaluate how I can take this onto the future.

Ongoing evaluation and reflection over this process will be important as it will give me the opportunity to reflect afterwards on how the process has changed, looking at myself and the group afterwards to see how far we have progressed, showing we won’t stick to one idea. I will then be able to write about this in a final evaluation which can put the whole project into perspective.

My decision making and progress will be written through reflective journal blogs on WordPress linked onto unit 12, but to show the rehearsals and documenting changes, these will be through videos uploaded onto YouTube.

Although I prefer working in a team as we can all pitch our ideas together and work well, I have some concerns that some members of the group may attempt to take control, meaning I may not have an opportunity to do all I wanted to do. Therefore, to solve this, we will arrange meetings and assign specific tasks for each member to minimise disruption.

Proposed Initial Research Sources and Bibliography (Harvard Format)
For my first idea, I looked at plays from playwrights that I have learned about, firstly looking at Joe Orton and specifically, his play ‘Entertaining Mr Sloane’, before deciding on ‘Loot’ from his complete plays.

Orton, J (2001) Entertaining Mr Sloane. Methuen Publishing Limited. London: Bloomsbury Publishing Plc.

Specific pages I used for Loot include:

Methuem, E (1976) Orton: The Complete Plays. London: Eyre Methuen Ltd. Act 1. Scene 1: Wake up. Stop dreaming. The cars will be here soon

Methuem, E (1976) Orton: The Complete Plays. London: Eyre Methuen Ltd. Act 2. Scene 1: The process by which…

My second idea involved a song ‘Twisted Games’ by David Lawrence:

Lawrence, D. 2016. Twisted Games. London: EMI

Another song I considered was ‘Where the Devil Don’t Go’ by Elle King

King, E. 2015. Where the Devil Don’t Go’. New York: RCA Records

I then took inspiration from a scene from ‘The Vampire Diaries’ for the scene:

thevampirediaries. 2017. The Vampire Diaries: 8×10 – Stefan kills Violet because she killed people, Caroline calls Matt. [Online]. [Accessed: 13 March 2017]. Available from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHKhMt4os7o

My final idea was taken from three songs from ‘Bad Girls’ the musical, however, I will only put forward two songs, the three I am considering are:

I shouldn’t be here:
